HP Makes Move into Handheld Computer Market

Hewlett-Packard is the world's biggest seller of PC's. Despite this fact, they have not been the first movers when it comes to the handheld computer market. They now find themselves playing catch-up to competitors like Apple. This is a booming business, and Hewlett-Packard is now making a big push to gain ground in this market segment with the release of new tablet PC's based on Palm technology it acquired last year.

While HP has long been known for making Windows-based PCs, these new tablets are rumored to run on Palm's WebOS operating system instead. While tablet PCs so far do not have all the power and capabilities of PCs , researches say consumers are increasingly opting for them over laptops. This could help differentiate HP from the competition running Android OS and of course Apple iOS as well.
