HTC Expected to Lead Taiwan’s Smartphone Market in 2011

The largest telecom company in Taiwan, Chungwa Telecom Co. expects its partner, HTC to dethrone Nokia as the largest brand in Taiwanese markets for smartphones by sales volume in the first half of this year. HTC and Chungwa Telecom signed a MOU in February to strengthen their cooperative promotion of HTC's smartphones in Taiwan. HTC's smartphone sales in Taiwan via their telecom partner have soared over 50 percent in the first quarter of this year from a quarter earlier. Surveys compiled by local market survey institutes indicate that HTC leads the Taiwanese market for smartphones in terms of sales value and ranked number 4 in sales volume last December. The sales of smartphones in Taiwan are estimated to grow between 2.8 million and 3.5 million units this year.
