New Sony Handheld Computer Gaming

Sony's new NGP handheld computer gaming system will not be using the company's trademark "XMB" user interface. The reason is that Sony wanted to make this device much more social network oriented, to make it easy for users to enjoy all of the fun games on social sites like Facebook, for example. The design priorities were to integrate the social networking factor, creating the potential for friends to join in co-op games online, and interact at any moment.
The other reason that they abandoned the XMB interface is because the NGP has a new touch-screen, and the XMB was designed to around a menu system to be operated with a controller. The new UI is probably more intuitive and user-friendly, but some are already critical of the design for being unattractive in comparison to the sleek and minimal XMB.
