Smartphones and Corporate IT Security

Smartphone devices like iPhone and Android are being welcomed into teh corporate world, but there is still uncertainty about how to fit them into enterprise IT security systems that have been developed around MS Windows and PCs. There is a concern over whether wireless carriers tend to crimp mobile security.
And when some companies have tried installing software on these devices that allow management and security controls, employees have complained that the software is cumbersome and slows down the device too much. Most of the agent-based security software has this issue, so some companies are trying alternate approaches. There is a new agentless approach to enforce basic security controls like password length, device lock and remote wipe that is being introduced by Sophos, called Sophos mobile control. The debate over the pros and cons of an agent or agentless approach will likely grow over the coming year.
